Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Mission
The mission of the University of North Florida nutrition and dietetics department is to educate and inspire students of every level through leadership, scholarly pursuits and community engagement.
Study Abroad
During the summer 2025, the nutrition and dietetics department is offering two study abroad experiences to students. The Study Abroad Italy experience exposes students to the benefits of the local Mediterranean diet and the culture surrounding food, which influences health. The class structure includes lectures from prominent experts, language classes, and hands-on cooking classes. The Study Abroad Japan experience immerses students into exploring connections between diet, lifestyle, and religious practices. The trip includes visits to Kyoto's shrines and a trek along the UNESCO World Heritage Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes, offering students a comprehensive view of how Japanese cultural heritage, spirituality, and Blue Zone principles contribute to health and longevity. Study abroad opportunities can impact all aspects of students’ lives, from enriching their education to conferring them valuable life skills and a broader perspective on the world that will help them become better human beings.
How Your Support Makes a Difference
In the spring of 2024, the department of nutrition and dietetics awarded $9,000 in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students to attend the annual Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Conference in Orlando.
